Silver Pines on Switch 2

Silver Pines Switch 2: a separate release from the Switch version, running well once patched. Save data, file size and what the launch patch fixed.

Yes, Silver Pines has a dedicated Switch 2 release. It runs well on the current patch, but it is a separate purchase from the Switch version and save data does not carry across.

Silver Pines shipped on Switch 2 on October 8, 2026, alongside the Switch, PC, PS5 and Xbox versions. It is not a backward-compatible listing of the older game: the eShop page lists Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch as two supported platforms, and the official version note says the two releases do not share save data or add-on content.

That distinction is the single most practical thing to know about this version. Everything else — the game, the endings, the 22 locks, the 25 mementos — is identical.

Is there a separate Switch 2 version?

Yes. The eShop entry lists both consoles, and the accompanying note is explicit: the game can be played on Switch 2, and a separate product exists for the Switch, and the two do not share saves or additional content.

This was not always reported correctly. Some pre-launch articles claimed a Switch 2 version had not been confirmed by the publisher. That reporting is out of date and was overtaken by the eShop listing and the launch-day coverage.

What the separate release does not include is exclusive content. The console builds are the same build, with no platform-specific levels, items or modes.

How does it run?

The one dedicated Switch 2 review we have gives it 9/10 and reports that it performs well, with no other issues noticed during a full playthrough on the current patch.

The review also notes that a progress-blocking bug existed before release and was fixed by the team. That is the reason for the standard advice on this page: update the game before you start, not after you get stuck.

Handheld performance in particular was described as solid. The game is a 2.5D, hand-drawn title with modest technical demands, so the Switch 2 has headroom that the older console does not.

File size and storage

The eShop listing puts the download at 4.0GB, the same figure shown for the Switch version.

Chinese-language sources quote 5.5GB for the Switch 2 build, but that conflicts with the store page and is most likely a later patch, a regional measurement or a transcription error. The eShop entry for your region is the number to trust.

If you are clearing space, plan for roughly 4 to 6GB and check the eShop entry for your region before you delete anything.

Save data and cross-version limits

Saves do not transfer between the Switch and Switch 2 versions. Buying both does not merge progress, and no migration tool has been announced.

Cloud saves exist on the platform, but they need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, and they sync within the same version rather than across versions. If you own both, treat them as two separate files.

This matters most for collection runs. A 25-memento playthrough is long enough that restarting on another console is a real cost, so pick the console you will finish on.

What is different from the Switch version?

Functionally, nothing in the content. The differences are the platform, the performance headroom and the store listing. The Switch 2 build is the one with a published performance report, and it is the one to buy if you own the newer console.

The Switch 2 also supports microSD Express cards for storage expansion. That is a platform feature rather than a game feature, but it is the reason storage advice for this version differs from the original Switch.

What the launch patch fixed

The launch build had a progress-blocking bug, meaning a player could reach a state where the story could not continue. The team patched it, and the dedicated Switch 2 review notes that the game runs well on the patched build.

Progress bugs are the worst kind for a guide site because they look like missing items. If a door will not open and the walkthrough says it should, check your version before you check your save.

Both listings show the same file size: 4.0GB.

Does it use the new hardware?

The eShop page and the review describe a standard release rather than a technical showcase: no mouse controls, no exclusive mode and no second-screen feature.

What the newer hardware buys you is a steadier frame rate and faster loading, which for a game built on atmosphere is the difference that matters.

Is it worth rebuying?

Only if you have moved to the newer console and want to play there. There is no save transfer, so rebuying means starting over unless you keep both consoles.

If you already finished the game on Switch, a second purchase buys performance headroom and nothing else. If you have not started, buy the version for the console you actually own.

What about the original Switch version?

It exists, it costs the same at launch, and it is a separate purchase. The two builds share content and file size but not saves.

If you own both consoles, the Switch 2 copy is the one with a documented performance report, and the Switch copy is the one for handheld play on older hardware.

Should you buy it on Switch 2?

Buy it here if the Switch 2 is your main console and you want the version with a documented performance report. Buy the Switch version instead if you play handheld on an original Switch or a Lite and do not plan to upgrade.

Neither choice locks you out of any content, and every guide on this site applies to both. The Switch page covers the older console, and the PS5 page covers the trophy side if you also want the platinum.

If you are still deciding whether the game is for you, the review page summarises what critics liked and what they did not.
