The safe most players mean when they search for a Silver Pines safe code is the dial safe in the Sheriff's Office. The combination is right 15, left 7, right 3, left 10, and the direction changes on every number. Doing it as a straight sequence of four digits will not work.
The safe itself is not the hard part. The hard part is that the four numbers are in four different paintings spread across the building, and the directions are in a manual on the desk. Miss either half and the dial just spins.
What is the safe combination?
R 15 · L 7 · R 3 · L 10. Start by turning right until the dial reaches 15, then reverse and stop at 7, then right to 3, then left to 10. The safe clicks open on the last stop.
Four independent sources give the same four numbers and the same alternating directions, including the file-level table that this site uses as its baseline. If your safe will not open, the usual cause is direction rather than the numbers themselves.
Four sources agree on 15 / 7 / 3 / 10 with direction changes (file-level table, two puzzle guides, one screenshot guide). The physical appearance of each painting is described slightly differently between sites, but the numbers attached to them do not change.
Where each number comes from
The numbers are not written on one document. They are attached to four artworks, and the desk book tells you which concept each painting represents: bones, spirit, body, evil.
- Spirit — 7. The cat-like creature painting on the hall wall.
- Bones — 15. The skeleton painting in the basement archive, on the way to the North Wing Key.
- Body — 3. The medical painting by the outside stairs of the north wing, near the bin with the licence plate.
- Evil — 10. The stone demon statue in the back garden.
The safe manual on the desk is what converts that list into a dial sequence. It does not give you numbers; it gives you directions, and the pairing is the puzzle.
What is inside the safe?
The safe holds ammunition and the Evidence Lockup Key. The lockup is the room with the evidence cages, and the key is what gets you inside.
Inside the lockup is the Crowbar. That single tool is the reason this safe matters more than the loot suggests: the crowbar opens sewer entrances, pryable crates and several memento containers for the rest of the game. Skipping the safe means locking yourself out of a large chunk of the mid-game.
The badge reversal and the 3100 keypad
The same building hides a second puzzle that players often confuse with the safe. In the cold storage room, pull out the mortuary drawer and use the Crowbar on the body's mouth to get badge 0013, a memento that boosts the last round in a magazine by 25%.
Then find the projector. The licence plate from the bin outside blocks part of the projected text, and what remains reads as an instruction: badge number, reversed. 0013 becomes 3100, which opens the interrogation room keypad and frees the deputy trapped inside.
The file-level table lists 3100 with no in-world clue attached, which is why some guides call it a guess. The projector reading is the explanation three separate sites give, and 0013 reversed matches the number exactly.
What the Crowbar unlocks elsewhere
The crowbar is not a weapon with tiers; it is a key that never stops being useful. Every pryable crate, sewer entrance and nailed panel in the game answers to it.
Three early uses matter: the sewer entrances on Market Street, the boarded panel east of the pet clinic, and the crates that hold memento containers in the Outskirts.
If you are replaying, the crowbar is the first thing worth beelining. It opens more optional content than any other tool, including two of the three boss-corps mementos that require backtracking.
If the dial will not turn
Four failure modes account for almost every stuck dial. The direction is wrong on one number, the sequence was entered faster than the game registers, the safe was already looted, or you are standing at a different safe.
There is no reset and no penalty for failing. Turn the dial again from the start and count the clicks rather than staring at the numbers.
If the safe is open but empty, it was looted earlier. Containers do not respawn on the same save.
Cell B and the armory
Past the lockup, the cell block hides the armory key on the bed in Cell B. That key opens the armory and the Model 7 Rifle, the weapon recommended for the deputy boss and the Church Hill siege.
The same corridor holds a ventilation shaft with the Metal Handle, one half of the revolver's six-shot upgrade chain. If you are doing a weapon run, the Sheriff's Office is worth a second pass before you leave.
None of this requires a code. It requires the crowbar, one key and a willingness to walk into the cells rather than back out to the street.
Which safe are you actually looking for?
Silver Pines has several safes, and they do not share a code. If the dial sequence above does nothing, you are probably standing at a different one.
| Safe | Where | Code |
|---|---|---|
| Office dial safe | Sheriff's Office | R 15 · L 7 · R 3 · L 10 |
| Editing room keypad | Thelend | 0002 |
| Office cash safe | Thelend | 66666 |
| Operations locker | Town Hall | 1893 |
| Bungalow 3 safe | Crimson Bear Motel | 6671 |
The Bungalow 3 safe is the one that overlaps with the shotgun puzzle, because it uses the same 6671 as the Gift Shop weapon locker. The shotgun code page covers that chain, and the codes hub lists all 22 locks in one table.
What the safe does not do
It does not end the area. The Sheriff's Office continues past the lockup into the cells, where the Armory Key is on the bed in Cell B and the Model 7 Rifle is behind the armory door. That rifle is the recommended weapon for the deputy boss and the Church Hill siege, so the detour is worth finishing.
It also does not give you the Crowbar's upgrade path. The crowbar is a tool, not a weapon with tiers, and it never breaks. Once you have it, every pryable surface in the game is open to you, including the ones you walked past in the Outskirts an hour earlier.
